Lesson Cancellation Policy

Illness & Family Emergencies

I will credit a student’s account if they must miss a lesson due to illness or family emergency. I do, however need confirmation via phone or email by no later than 10 a.m. the day of the lesson. I will also credit a student’s account if I must miss a lesson due to illness or emergency. In such instances, I will attempt to provide notification by 10 a.m. the day of the lesson. Make-up lessons instead of an account credit can also be given upon request at no additional cost.

Planned Absences

If you have a planned absence-for example, a family vacation or a school obligation that conflicts with the lesson time-please let me know at the beginning of the month when I send you that month’s tuition statement. I will either not charge for that missed lesson, or plan a make-up lesson at a different time, according to your preference. If you envision five or more planned absences during the semester, please contact me, as we may need to reschedule the regular lesson time.

Unexpected Absences and Last Minute Cancellations

If either scenario occurs, please contact me by 10 am the day of the lesson and we will attempt to reschedule within the following month.

Weather-Related Cancellations

This does happen from time to time and I abide by the Lake Washington School District’s decision of whether or not to cancel classes. I will offer a couple of different make up lesson dates for everyone who missed their lesson time due to weather-related school closures.

If the student misses the lesson entirely, or if I did not receive notification of the student’s absence by 10 a.m. that day, you will be charged for the lesson. I will be happy to give a make-up lesson at an additional charge.

Cumulative Absences

If a student cancels or misses five or more lessons in a semester, I cannot allow him or her to participate in the semester’s studio recital, as he or she will not be adequately prepared for the performance. After five missed lessons, all make up lessons will be at additional charge.

Terminating Lessons

Lessons should be considered at least a semester-long commitment (September-December and January-June.) If you must cancel before the end of the semester, you will be charged an additional month’s worth of lessons while I attempt to fill your child’s time slot.
